Why It's So Important to Take Multiple Breaks During Working Hours?

Updated: May 10, 2024

You're in the midst of that exciting project, ideas flowing, fingers typing frantically on the keyboard. Time seems to fly when you're immersed in work. But wait... Your mind starts to feel fuzzy, shoulders tense, and productivity slowly fading. What to do? It's time for a break!

When we're immersed in work, we often forget just how essential it is to take regular breaks. Stretching your legs, lengthening your spine, and relaxing your mind are not just luxuries; they're fundamental needs to keep health and performance high.

So why are these breaks so crucial?

First, let's talk about the body. Sitting for long periods can lead to a range of health issues, from back pain to circulatory problems. Getting up, walking around a bit, and stretching your muscles can prevent these issues and keep you refreshed to tackle the rest of the workday.

But it's not just the body that needs attention.

The mind deserves a break too. Working non-stop can lead to mental fatigue, decreased concentration, and even increased stress. By taking a break, you give your mind a chance to recharge, leading to greater mental clarity, creativity, and productivity when you return to work.

So how can we integrate these breaks into our workdays?
  • First, establish a schedule. Set alarms or reminders to remember to take regular breaks throughout the day.

  • Secondly, be deliberate about how you spend these breaks. If you work in a coworking space, use the lounge areas or head outside for a walk.

  • For our coworkers here at Caparica Cowork Studio, breaks can be spent with a nice walk by the sea, catching some waves for those who surf, or stretching in our indoor or outdoor lounge area overlooking the Arriba Fóssil Cliff.

Take deep breaths to relax the mind.

We cannot underestimate the importance of taking care of our bodies and minds. So, the next time you find yourself immersed in work, remember: a short break can be the key to a more productive and rewarding day.

Take care of yourself!
